It's not just Trump. They have been protesting Republican attorney generals, calling them fascist at least back to Reagan. I remember the protests in the streets that even blocked ambulances complaining about Ashcroft.

But surely, someone’s morals are indicative of who they are. So are their politics; where you vote indicates what your priorities are.
It isn’t “dehumanizing” someone to point out that if they don’t care about Trump & Co. undermining science, healthcare, the rule of law and so forth, they might not be the type of person I want to be friends with. I’m not saying you aren’t human, but I am saying you aren’t my kind of human.

I think Trump has ruined more families than anything else since the civil war. Friends and I have taken a poll and the vast majority of families with 3 or more kids has at least one sibling estranged over politics. It seems like more MAGA have pulled away, except in DH’s family his gay brother pulled away from his MAGA brother in the first term.

No. Trumpers and you want to kill my family and me because I support the constitution. You want troops on the streets of Maryland because there are too many uppity blacks and hispanics. You support kidnapping people off the street and force everyone to work in a factory owned by some billionaire who gave Trump a dollar.
I always wonder who would stand with the Nazis as they dragged your neighbors away and it is people like.

This is cultish. Did your daughter have Biden flags? I think this explains everything. Besides all the blatant cruelty. Finally, if you can’t tell anyone who you voted for, you know it’s wrong.

You made a choice to be a stealth Trump supporter to avoid any blowback. Your DD’s friend chose to support him openly and accept any social consequences. She’s either very brave or likes being a sh!t stirrer. I think you should reach out to her and let her know that she’s not alone.
Encourage your dd to be kind and to treat others with dignity and respect. She can choose who she wants to be friends with. If she no longer feels compatible with this longtime friend, the relationship may have run its course. She should not be mean to the other girl, but she’s not obligated to remain friends forever.

It’s different now for a lot of us: we aren’t talking anymore about who wants smaller government or who wants to spend more on the military.
To have a vote for Trump and the GOP be “not a big deal” means reproductive rights, voting rights, and the rule of law is not a big deal to you either, and for me, we are talking about not sharing real values here.
