I would recommend that you start with asking your kid. Sit down and click around in the canvas for that class. Have your student tell you how Canvas is used for the class.

If you don't see them, send an email to the teacher and tell them that you looked in Canvas and you are uncertain where to find them.

Some teachers assign signed progress reports/notes regardless of grade and some (most) don't. But if you sign up for a parent account in Powerschool you can see your kids grades. When my son was a freshman there were directions in the welcome packet so check there if the link doesn't give enough info.

One of my kid’s teachers noted that progress reports would only be sent out if a student was currently getting a C- or lower.

Not sure about where to find progress notes (Canvas? Power School?) but my kid has a “progress” assignment due next week for a class where they have to take a screenshot of their grades and have parents sign it to show that families are aware.
