What are you thinking re: positive growth?

Like DC has positive growth in map scores and such, should I say this?

Absolutely not.
Youe child should write the essay.

Anyone know if you are supposed to answer the question with a story or a list of extracurriculars?

Did you read the above responses? One says no list. -DP

Oh I see. But like, should it be a story, like with an interesting hook like college essays you see online?

Previous poster. Also, please don't write your kids' essays!

My kid wrote the way he speaks (I’m not talking about using slang etc). I would have written it differently but I am not 13. Let their own thoughts and language come through.

Have your child draft something describing their general interests in life, and their approaches to those. Read it and give them some feedback, but let their writing stand for itself. I think the committees love seeing a 13-year-old voice.

Oh I see, what do you mean 13 year old voice though? Like they should not try to use too much advanced vocab and etc?

Both of my kids got into Blair, RM, Poolesville. Their essays sounded like 8th graders, whining. No joke. Neither spent much time on the essays, and I would say they are average writers. They didn't toot their horns over anything. Just talked about random things that they enjoy. We knew others whose children wrote essays about how they enjoy the academics (reading, science projects, etc) and that didn't go over well for them. So I am not sure what the readers are looking for, but our experience was that they are looking just to know your kids as 13 year olds.

*You* shouldn't say anything. Are you planning to write the essay for your kid?

This. No kid is passionate about everything. What's the through-line, what makes them excited and unusually focused?
