Subject: Did your high school athlete keep playing after HS?
My daughter played HS softball and was not good enough for a D3 team, but plays on the club team at her D1 school. She says the club team is not very high level competition, even for her, so she also picked up another club sport that is more serious and competitive. Over the summers, she plays pick up games with adult rec players.
I'm curious for the softball players that morphed into rec players -- is it hard with the pitching, moving from fast pitch to slow pitch? My impression is that its hard to do fast pitch casually as a rec player as you need practice to have a consistent pitch. And also that if you trained as a fast pitch pitcher, slow pitch is not something you really know how to do.

I played coed softball and women's volleyball until I was 35.

My DS (who is also not D1 level) is about to commit to a D3 school. Many of his former HS and travel ball teammates play club baseball in college, and that was his back-up plan if he did not get a D3 offer that worked for him.

DD played club softball while in college and has played on an adult league since graduation. It’s been a great way to meet people and make new friends as she lives in a city where very few of her college friends live.

There's D3, which is still tough with school, but it will get him into a better academic school. Or many colleges have club teams.

Baseball will eventually turn into softball. In the future, will likely be enjoyed as a co-ed activity. A good way to socialize.

My DS played club hockey in college and now that he is out of college, he plays in an adult league.

Don't a lot of colleges have club sports? He'd still have to try out, but could play for the club team.

Much easier for basketball than baseball which requires fields, umps, lots of players and gear.

We always emphasized academics more than sports for our two FCPS varsity athletes. We would never have allowed sports to determine a college choice. Both did some intramural sport activities in college for fun. Both remained in shape beyond college, continued to go to the gym, lift, and play on occasional adult rec teams, often co-ed.

Why not play D3? Thats what mine is considering though he thinks he wants to attend a bigger school. Most colleges offer intramural sports as well.

Curious about ways that your child was able to stay involved in their sport, or sports in general, after high school? I have a talented, athletic baseball player that isn't interested (or honestly good enough) to play D1, but he still loves the sport. Are there other ways to keep playing during college and beyond? Or other ways your child stayed involved in the sport (coaching, involvement in a related business/career, etc.)
Basically, looking for out of the box success stories for kids who transitioned from dedication to one sport in high school to a satisfying life that involved sports without play at the very highest level.
