They take a large number of transfers from community college. This is different from most top 20s.

It[b]'
s not big big. Meaning land wise smaller than UCLA, UVA, Penn State, ... But same number of people tightly packed. surrounding neighborhood a bit scary. Guards at entrances and a wall to protect.

To contrast - UCLA no wall.

Greek yes - University of Spoiled Children

It's 47,000 students! And hugely Greek! And not well respected by old-line Californians like myself, who still think of it as the University of Spoiled Children. My nephew went there and regretted it.

While in general I get annoyed if people don’t specify which they mean, OP included the state so in this case it should have been quite obvious from context.

DC loves it there. Not Greek nor are any of the friend group. Plenty of clubs and other activities. As an example ski club has like 500 kids in it. Great connections for internships and jobs. Very smart kids who know how to have fun.

About 1/3 of undergrads are in Greek life so it is definitely part of the culture but there are hundreds of clubs and activities so it is a school she can have fun at even if she isn't in a sorority. The campus is compact, truth be told the area around it isn't great, there are always students around. It also has a very solid networking and mentorship and lots of advising and support for students.

Learn to concentrate. She said “CA is far away.”

Thinking about it for DD; only downside is that CA is so far away from DC! DD wants a mid-ish size school with school spirit but not totally absorbed in Greek culture, business/entrepreneurship/math/ or bio, near the beach (!). What is your experience with the school? Not going for an all out party vibe, but she would like to have fun. 4.0, 34 ACT, good ECs, unhooked.
