And I separately am not a news hound. I can't avoid hearing tidbits when listening to WTOP for traffic reports, although I wish I could. I try to ignore the "news" items and just focus on the traffic reports.

My work is inherently political because our clients and our jobs are impacted (hurt) by the administration's actions. We have a teams chat to share protests, etc. But we still don't talk about the daily news cycle because it's exhausting. OP, it's ok for your boss to handle things differently from you.

Why do you have to write such a long title to your post? That says a lot right there.

My current office it’s not discussed at all. I love it. It’s very GenX. We’re there to do the work. I don’t even know how any of my colleagues lean politically.

My last place hired a bunch of millennials during the pandemic, and it was very clear there was only one acceptable point of view. There was a big blow-up on Slack when someone mentioned in a foodie channel that there was a Chick-fil-A opening near one of our offices. A lot of people were pissed that anyone would even consider going there.

I much prefer working with people who don’t want to talk politics.

Try to imagine how you would feel if you had a Republican boss jabbering about politics all day in the office. Would that be appropriate?

He's either choosing not to talk about politics at work or choosing to disassociate from the day to day news cycle. Both smart decisions.

I'm gonna be real with you, I'm left leaning and I don't keep up with the news either. I hate Trump and everything he's doing and no one seems to be able to do anything...watching the news just makes me pointlessly frustrated so I don't.

Honestly I can relate to your boss wanting to focus on work instead of perseverating over something we can't do anything about. (And don't say we can protest, because those don't seem to be working.)

If it makes you better, I had a MAGA boss during the first Trump administration and I would much prefer a politically apathetic boss.
