It depends a lot on what specifically was happening. A defender putting two hands on a ball handler is a foul. Pushing with their body on a ball handler who isn’t actively moving forward — especially near the basket — won’t get called. Basketball is definitely a contact sport. In high school, my kid had all kinds of bruises and dings after games.

Force One is a good league and the refs have been ref'ing there a while. They let the kids play but as far as I've been playing there they keep things under control. From time to time every league has a team or two that is aggressive and the refs might not be quick to call but overall they do a good job and the refs also help the kids. I've seen countless times the refs explained why they called a foul and how to defend correctly not to get a foul.

6th garde basketball game held in PG county.. players on the other team were pushing and shoving really hard. Refs not calling fouls. Is that normal?
