Whether the parent should be finding another goalie or not, it's the opposite of 8-year old soccer. These are the 2007's/2008's...so at the very end of her rodeo.

Are you that bad at math? 07/08 is not 8 year old soccer.

OP, are you the coach of this team or a parent? If a parent it’s really not your place to try to find a replacement. If the player has communicated that they do not want to play goalie AND the coach has communicated to the team that they would like help in finding someone for the position, that’s a different story. If these things are not the case, then you really need to stay out of it.

Daughter had a friend from school who is a tall club basketball player. I was talking to her parents at a school event and asked if she had ever played goalie. They laughed at first but thought maybe she would like to try it.

So her dad brought her to practice and a parent who knew something g about being a goalie took her aside and taught her to drop kick, how to attack the ball, position for best angle, roll the ball.

She ended up being pretty good. She didn’t come to many practices and basketball was always the priority so missed a couple of games but she was a huge help that season because no one wanted to play goalie and one girl reluctantly did if basketball player wasnt there

Why don't you ask your coach?

Go to the guest player page on facebook and see if you can find someone local who is a backup goalie etc. and who would guest with you.

Easy answer in 3 letters: NIL

Is there some sort of Maryland or Virginia soccer Facebook page? There are ones for baseball where teams post all the time looking for players full time or just taxi.

We have the same struggle. We are EDP league and had a great goalie last year but sge moved clubs. Our new goalie was a last minute addition from rec. She does her best but she’s not good.

This is very true. There are *coaches* who don't even truly understand the position. Hopefully your club has dedicated GK training and she'll benefit from that as the season goes on. To be completely fair, and you may not like me saying this, but you are talking about an RL/NCSL team. I am *not* saying that there aren't good goalies playing on those teams but as a general rule of thumb, the better ones, especially in the older age groups, will be found on ECNL and GA teams.

This is a child you are talking about publicly and not your place. You are not the Club. Shame on you.

Our team had the opposite experience. We picked up a new goalie this year, too, and she is fantastic! Our previous goalie either quit playing or changed clubs, not sure which, but we are thankful for this girl! I guess you just never know with that position since there aren't a ton of girls out there who want to play it.

As for finding a new goalie now that the season has started, it might be hard for a few reasons. First, there aren't that many to begin with. Second, at the 07/08 age group, there are probably fewer than any other age group because some of them have quit playing by now (and this is, of course, mostly their last year to play). Maybe a goalie coach will see your post and know someone but I suspect you're looking for a needle in a haystack given the circumstances.

07/08 girls team. ECNL-RL/NCSL

Previous goalie of years stopped playing last season. Picked up a new goalie who might be playing the position for the first time ever. I’m not going to lie, I feel horrible for her, but it’s painful to watch and sit through the games.

Any hopes of finding a goalie now? And recommendations for searching?
