This is exactly where it hurts. I actually pinched it sideways which initially made me think it was broken, but now the nail bed is so tender. No discoloration yet, but it feels like the nail could fall off. I can bend it and extend it and make a fist, so clearly not broken. I hope my nail survives!
If there isn’t dark purple/black) (blood) under it, it very likely will be fine. If you do lose it, it grows back. It’s not a big deal to lose a nail, but I am sorry for your pain!

Can you make a fist? Can you extend your fingers?
If you have that full range of motion it is unlikely to be anything broken.
Take some Advil and ice it.

Subject: When will I know if I really messed up my finger?
About an hour ago I caught my finger in a drawer. When I happened my vision went white with pain and I thought surely it would be broken or my fingernail broken off, but nothing other than immense pain. An hour later it’s still tender, warm, has a heart beat, and hurts when I use it, but no swelling or even redness. Should I do anything?
