CNM here - the above is mostly not quite right. Two months in is a perfectly reasonable time to do a pregnancy test - if you were pregnant, it would be positive.. Ultrasounds are done when people have irregular and prolonged bleeding but not for the occasional missed or late period. You could certainly consider getting your thyroid checked. It really sounds like parimenopause. The warning signs to follow up on are irregular/prolonged periods and the work up would primarily be an ultrasound and an endometrial biopsy. But nobody would do that for an occasional late or skipped period in your 40s.
