My 7th grader is in it and so far it seems pretty useful. The teacher is neurodiverse and I’m grateful that my adhd son will have a chance to learn from someone who has walked his path and develop confidence/pride in who he is. We do have to supplement with assignment tracking at home because not everything is in schoology in a way the sfs teacher can easily track - but we are okay with that.

Strats has a coupe purposes -

1) Each class they teach a 10-15 minute lesson, usually dealing with executive function/organization. It can be how to take notes, keep track of assignments, proper etiquette for emailing a teacher, etc.

2) For students who get extended time, it is a class where they can access that extra time without missing content in one of their other classes.

3) Study Hall - but with a teacher who can assist if needed, keep them on track, etc.

It can be really beneficial.

From everything I know on this class it's very teacher and school dependent on if it's useful or not as far as learning executive function stuff. That aid some kids find it useful for time to complete work. My 7th grader ended up not being put it in because she needed the Literacy class to work on her goals related to Dyslexia. 8th grade DD is in the special education class Strategies for Success. She gets extended time on her assignments per her IEP and has an accommodation to track all her assignments in an agenda. The Strategies for Success teacher conducts a weekly agenda check for each student and only relies on Schoology for assignments and due dates. First of all none of DDs teachers use Schoology for assignment due dates. Even if Schoology dates were posted they would not reflect DDs extended due dates
Hence the agenda checks are useless for DD since the teacher is unable or unwilling to verify with DDs core teachers the actual due dates
With that being said what is the exact benefit to this class? There is no Schoology board for the Strategies for Success class so I have no clue what is being taught. The teacher was being very cagey about the curriculum on back to school night in the 10 minutes that she had which she devoted most of the time to talking about herself
