It’s a tough call. The tub has rust — also not great as it could be exposing people to lead or other heavy metals.

non issue.

It is an issue for any older tub. I think 1978 is when they stopped using lead in finishing materials.

We did this as a temporary fix since we had the mauve 60s surround tiles and the small tiles embedded in a foot of concrete on the floor. It has held up well. The key is to get a rug that covers most of the floor.

From what I’ve heard you want to move out for a few days.

Plan to work elsewhere and put your pup in doggie daycare.
I got my tub and tiles reglazed before selling my house. It was a 1950s pink bathroom with mudset tile. The tub looked okay but I regret doing the tile which was old but in good shape. Our reallor pushed for it saying the pink would be a turn off, but it looked weird and had a strange texture.

np here, is there a company recommendation? Would they reglaze floor tiles? (in terrific shape, those small 1 x 1 ones)

I just had my tub done. Last time I reglazed it was about 6 years ago and the time before that it lasted over 10 years. I would definitely get out of the house for a few hours. The fumes are really bad.
Ask them for cleaning instructions and follow them. My company is very specific about what cleansers you can use. No soft scrub, no sponges with scouring pads, no leaving bottles to sit on the edge of the tub. Also, you can't get it wet for 24 hours but I wait longer to let it fully cure.

I would get out of the house but just be warned, glazing does not hold up well. Be gentle as you can with it, but even then...

Thoughts on what to expect? Getting an old tub with signs of rust repaired.

They’ll have the door closed and an exhaust fan running out the window, but I wfh and have a dog — should I worry? Take us both elsewhere for the day?

Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks!
