Most jobs right out of college are essentially administrative assistants. You don’t get to start halfway up the ladder just because you went to a good school.

I’m not sure what you mean by chose but that is a fine entry-level job and a very normal one.

Doesn't matter to me. Their student loans are theirs to pay off, so it's their choice.

Depends on the industry. I'm in PR and it's common for the entry-level position to be a higher-ups EA for a year or two and gradually get more client work etc. to rise up the ranks.

Hopefully you have been on the same page all along. In this Job market any job is a good job. If entry level positions in their field are administrative low paying positions and everyone knew that going in all is good.

I went to a T30 private and my first job out of school was as a receptionist on capitol hill. I was paying my own bills and I was working in a political environment. My parents never said a word. They have helped with a couple things for me and us along the way, but not because we asked - they offered help when they knew it would make things easier. They helped pay for a plane ticket after 9/11 and me losing my job and my military BF at the time (who later became my husband) being so far away. They later helped with our trips back and forth to visit with my FIL when he was sick with cancer- 4 short notice roundtrip tickets are NOT cheap and they didn't want us to worry about the cost.

Currently, my daughter is working FT earning decent money after she flunked out of college...and I'm stuck unemployed despite having a Masters degree.

Just be happy a child is employed and hopefully they aren't still living off their parents.

It’s a foot in the door and they can continue to look.

I’d be happy that my daughter was self supporting and adulting. If she wants something different, then I’d hope she pursued it.

Are they disappointed? Did they apply unsuccessfully for other jobs or did they want this job for some reason?

Depends. What major and what was the original goal?

Your DC finished a private college and chose to become an administrative assistant? Or would be satisfied that they were simply employed?
