Do you know how many students are on their caseloads? They have to triage every hour of every day. Give them as much information as possible in the email, let them know if it is time sensitive, and then send reminder emails if you haven't seen a reply.

I agree.

The counselors at the school I used to teach in had 400 students on their caseloads.

Depending on how time-sensitive the email was, a week seems completely reasonable.

Did you mention what information you needed? Or, just asked them to call you?
Agree, that this is a VERY busy time.

If you are requesting a class switch, I'd hope you'd get a quick reponse.
If you want to talk about college recommendation, I'd way--or get your kid to contact the counselor.
In fact, your kid should probably contact the counselor.

If it is more of a socio-emotional issue, maybe tell counselor exactly what the issue is.

If it can wait, be patient.

This is also probably one of the busiest times of the year with college apps due and parents wanting to move their kids to a different classroom.

The person above an HS counselor is the Director of Student Services. They are the ones who supervise counselors not the assistant principals.

how urgent is it? I think they should have responded already so if it is slightly urgent I would forward the email to Asst Prinncipal and ask for help

Depends on the urgency and whether or not you have the correct email address. Seems like someone said earlier that they discovered there was another email for a teacher he was trying to contact.
