I loved the book! I believe the author is local, meaning he went to school or taught at UMCP. Did anyone know him?

I liked it a lot. Not so much the sequel.

I liked it a lot. The perspective and voice is so different than what we usually see.

It was a DNF for me. I just couldn’t get into it.

Everyone I know who read it thought it was a slog or didn’t finish. I wanted to love it but it was a hard read. Slow.

I loved the book (Altho not the sequel). I think it was a perspective on the VN war that we don’t read a lot of in this country. I also really liked all the duality that the author played with.
The end part was hard to read, but I was interested in where it went at the very end.
I thought the sequel was just ok—I thought a lot of the violence there was gratuitous and thought the author told more than showed (lots of philosophical monologues).

It was a 'did not finish' for me. I got bogged down in the middle, skipped ahead to the end, then paged though some of the latter half. Just not the book for me.

I've never seen Apocalypse Now, and I think that had something to do with my indifference. I just found it a slog I wasn't willing to power through.

Has anyone read it? I finally slogged through it - it was way past due at the library by the time I finished it. It just felt like such an "outsiders" view in, if that makes sense. I am trying to read all the books that have won a Pulitzer so I crossed that one off my list but it wasn't easy.
