I have friends in both camps. One friend who had been heavy her whole life and gains weight looking cross-eyed at anything other than a vegetable, will be on it for the rest of her life. She’s okay with that because she has addressed all sorts of other medical issues as a result of shedding the weight. Another friend gained a bunch of pounds during menopause but was a pretty healthy eater and she went on Zep for three months to shed 20 lbs (I think she stayed on the lowest dose). She tapered off the drug and has kept it off give or take a pound or two.

It’s lose, not loose.

Was this difficult with insurance, since you are not obese any longer and a longer break occurred? Is this still considered continuation of care after one stops?

Insurance would be foolish not to cover it, given the issues caused by obesity that they would cover instead. But insurers are often foolish so who knows.

My doc wants me to do all the good things (protein, weights, sleep) but also talks about obesity as a chronic disease that may need lifetime meds to manage. I have no date to end the meds.

PP again to add - I know it's a cliche to say you'll develop better habits when x happens... but I lost weight without meds pre-kids by making exercise / diet my main hobby. I only have kids at home 6 more years and I could see myself going back to that level of exercise as an empty nester. (It really was many hours a day of exercise and meal prep, I couldn't do it on a 30 minute jog daily.)

I never had an issue losing weight, but once I hit peri/menopause, no amount of exercise or diet changes moved the scale beyond a pound or two. Perhaps you are younger and will have better luck with revisiting your diet-exercise hobby.

Your body needs time to adjust to the new normal - probably a lot longer than people think. Then you probably need to taper more slowly too.

There was a WSJ article written by one of their reporters about how he was able to maintain his weight loss and in fact lose more weight after stopping drugs.

Bradley Olson’s weight-loss journey didn’t end when he stopped taking Mounjaro after losing 40 pounds. Without the medication, he found ways to lose another 20.

I will take it once a month if needed.

Can you talk about your starting weight/how much you lost and your relationship with food before you started?

I’m just 20lbs away from my goal weight and my question is… then what? If the effects only last as long as I stay on it, will I gain the weight back as soon as I stop? Do I stay on a lower dose for.. forever?

Anyone who stopped who can talk about their appetite?
