Robotics teams can be like this. Also Boy Scouts.

It's highly dependent on the individual teams/troops.

Ask the moms of his nicer friends/classmates.

It depends on the reason. Anxiety, slow processing speed, ADD, language difficulty, traumatic experiences, any number of things can cause this. How you handle it depends on the reason.

Making him think he's disappointing you, he's unmasculine, he needs to be fixed, etc., is what you should avoid.

Have a boy (first born too) who is shy doesn’t speak up lets friend walk all over him gets bossed around by others. I want him to be confident in himself and use his words and actions to make his needs and opinions known.

What am I doing wrong? How can I build his confidence?
