Subject: How many APs?
My DS took 7 total and is in his 2nd yr at Princeton.
What you took and why and how that impacted you is so much more important than racking up 12-13 APs.

Most kids do not have 10+
Generalities don't work on questions like this. You have to know your school. In the most competitive publics in suburban DC, YES the most competitive kids DO have 10+. My DD graduated with 14, but the kid with the most APs in her school was 19 or 20. Those are the kids that end up at the top 20s.

Kid 1 had 7, but a higher gpa (w4.1), all the rest honors except 1-2 electives.
Kid 2 will have 8, mix of honors and regular. Gpa w3.5.
I think the gpa will matter more.

Catholic HS, where registerion for APs is strictly limited by grade in pre-req classes and teacher signature:
Sophomore year - 1 (AP Pre-Calc) (5)
Junior year - 2 (AP Calc AB* and AP Physics 1) (5 and 5)
Senior year (currently) - 5:
AP Calc BC
AP Stats
AP Physics C - Mechanics
AP Computer Science Principles
AP US Government
* No students allowed to go directly to BC
Sophomore year - 1 (AP Pre-Calc) (5)
Junior year - 2 (AP Calc AB* and AP Physics 1) (5 and 5)
Senior year (currently) - 5:
AP Calc BC
AP Stats

It depends on how many the school offers. Our school offers only a select few.
1-freshman year
3-sophmomre year
3-junior year (doing multivariable which doesn't have an AP)
Not sure what senior year will look like.

Mine took 3 soph year (all 5’s) and plans to take 3 more this junior year, and will take 3 or 4 senior year, so 9 or 10 total. This is pretty much maxing out what she is able to take at her school.

2 junior year (or 3? Do you count Micro/Macro as one or 2 since they are only one semester?). Micro, Macro, Spanish.
2 senior year - Stats and BC Calc
5 on everything except Spanish (4)
Magnet school with very limited AP offerings, colleges know this. 4-5 APs is typical and 20% of the class gets into Ivies.

Senior DD took one in 10th grade (APUSH) , 5 in 11th (Calc BC, Chem, World, Lang, microeconomics). 5s on all six AP exams. She’s taking two APs right now (Lit, Latin).
