Stuffed animals are fine.

Agree with cutting back liquids and trying for dry nights with no need for pull ups. This is harder with 50/50 custody, so sorry.

My 13 year old son has a ton of stuffies on his bed … he also likes me to lie with him before he falls asleep every night. Seems like that’s more the norm based on what my friends say.

My 17 yr old DD still sleeps with her stuffies. Also- take my advice, do not try to get rid of them to prevent him from having them- these kids remember every stuffed animal and he will be asking for it randomly 10 years from now!

The bedwetting might be due to the divorce. Could you get him into some play therapy with a good therapist? Maybe they can help your DC express their emotions and it might curb the nighttime bathroom issues. Tell your Dad to mind his own business.

I’m 39 and I sleep with a stuffie. My husband hugs a pillow all night. What’s the difference?

My HS freshman sleeps with his stuffed animals. He can sleep without them and doesn’t bring them when he stays with friends. At home he still loves them.

My adult cousin still has a piece of her childhood blanket under her pillow. She’s high functioning and successful.

In short, many never outgrow security objects. It’s fine!

What I've heard from pediatricians is that they don't even start worrying about nighttime accidents/pullups until age 7. So I wouldn't say a word to him about it.

And I know GROWN ADULTS who sleep with a special stuffed animal. People bring them to college. Your son is FINE sleeping with stuffed animals.

With the divorce, I'd let the kid sleep with as many stuffies as he wants - he needs that tactile security and comfort to fall asleep (semi-peacefully). The divorce has disrupted his little world as he knows it. Don't make it worse by taking away a stuffy too.

Fwiw, my 9 yr still take his stuffed dog to bed every night. It's tatered and worn, but neither me or DS seem to mind.

My DS 7 still sleeps with a stuffy, it's so normal for K. Why make them grow up faster than they want to and who cares?

I took a stuffy with me to college.

My brother didn’t stop bed wetting till age 9 and my mom tried everything under the son. His son was also late to fully night train. Don’t worry too much about this.

Both are normal.
My 13yo still has animals on her bed and has a lovey. We took a make friend to the beach with us this summer and he brought a lovey too. ( they all stay on their pillows, not carried around or anything)
Bed wetting is normal at 5 especially if he is a deep sleeper. My kid was in pull-ups until 7-8. We tried the alarm, dream pew, limiting liquids, nothing worked except time.

DC 10 still likes stuffed animals, he wants but can’t sleep with stuffed animals since he has asthma. For pull up at night, you can try eliminate liquid 2-3 hours before bed and no milk at dinner time, have your DC go potty before bedtime, but not wake him up to go potty. Use waterproof pad and have your son wear regular underwear (or inside pull up), some kids would wake up when feels the wetness then self train to hold or wake up.

Both are COMPLETELY normal at that age. Tell your dad that he had his time to parent and now it’s your time and you don’t want him to bring that up again.

I’m surprised your pediatrician is no help. My spouse is a pediatrician and would say that even age 8 is normal to not be dry all night. It’s not something kids can control while they’re unconscious. May be time for a new pediatrician?

My son is 5 turns 6 in February. His dad and I are divorced we have 50 50 custody get along fairly well . He's the only kid I got he loves to sleep with his stuffed animals my dad keeps saying he should be outgrowing it . I feel there's nothing wrong with it and let him be a kid . He also still wears pull-ups to bed and hardly ever wakes up dry . Any thoughts on kids sleeping with stuffies or should I discourage him from doing it any ideas on bedwetting? His pediatrician is no help ?
