The mourners don’t care. (As someone who recently had a close family member pass and had people apologize about their clothed).

Went to a Korean funeral and my friend in a dark blue suit looked completely out of place. However for an American funeral I think it’s fine as long as the overall color theme is darker.

Because we're East Asian, and nothing but black is allowed. I have black outfits in my closet for this purpose. My DD has black dresses, my DS has a black suit. When they were little, I had to run to buy stuff when someone died and they had outgrown their previous outfit.

This seems a bit much. No one cares if a little boy is in a dark navy suit vs a black suit. As long as he's clean and dressed appropriately/dark.

OP what you have is likely fine but can't say for sure without photos. I would avoid loud patterns if at all possible. But for example, if you have a black dress with small polka dots and you wear a black jacket or sweater on top, that would be appropriate. The florals I wouldn't wear unless that is basically the only thing she has in her closet (I would go with dark pants and a black top before a floral dress, even if it's muted) but it could also work with a dark jacket on top, if it has to. Take care of yourselves. It isn't very important and you don't need to shop. I'm just responding because you seem anxious about it and trying to give you some guidance based on what you have on hand. I'm sorry for your loss.

What about polka dots? If say black overall with white dots (small ones, not large)
Any other guidance appreciated. I have to dress myself and two teenage girls and the death was a shock.

Wear what you have. You don't need to be dress shopping to appease others at a time like this. I'm sorry for your loss.

I got my 13 year old DD two dresses for services she attended this summer, one dark grey and one navy. Both with sleeves, higher necklines, below the knee, and not tight. A skintight black mini dress isn’t appropriate for a memorial service, either.

For our families, it's strictly black.

Any of that is fine. No one will judge. I am sorry for your loss.

I don’t think patterns are appropriate. I do think any dark color is fine (navy, gray, plum, burgundy) is okay though.
