It depends on how high end the lodges you stay in are. We arranged a trip ourselves recently and it was about 7k per person for everything total for two weeks (flights, drivers, lodging at amazing places, tours, and even went to Zimbabwe at the end).

Call Frosch Travel : Atlanta office , they are experts in SA travel, and you could do it was way cheaper than that . They will book where it is safe, have knowledge of the parks and accommodations. No need to stay where Americans stay, go where the locals go. Cape Town you don't need a tour, can rent a car and drive to the wineries . Its amazing !! Would even be cheaper to hire Uber to do it for the day .....or a day trip tour . I am South African and use Frosh for air tickets etc always .

Probably if you're paying someone else to organize it for you. The South African Rand is weak to the USD, so it's actually not that expensive to go, if you do it yourself. But it's a fair amount of work.

Anyone have a tour group they used and loved? I found one online I liked but it is $12,000 a person. Is that the norm??
