I also am looking for clarity on this for future planning purposes.

If you will sell your house and then shortly thereafter buy another, does it typically go as follows?

1. You plan to calculate about 3-5 percent to the sales price of your home (DC) to cover closing costs.

2. Then, when you buy, add 5 percent or so to the sales price to cover both parties’ realtor fees?

2.5% to seller agent commission. 1% buyer agent commission, and that's if buyer increase offer at least 1% above asking.

This but traditionally in DC and MD all of these costs are split equally.

I might sell another house, so it does matter to me.

Earlier this week, I bought or sold a house in the DMV and am wondering how much each side tends to pay because I want to know if I should have negotiated more to pay less than I did.
