Did anyone else see Melissa Clark's roast chicken recipe in the NYT inspired by Mrs. Bennett's roast partridge in Pride and Prejudice? It got me thinking about books with memorable descriptions of food and meals. There are many, but two that immediately came to mind are:

Pachinko by Min Jin Lee--
Hunger -- physical/real and metaphorical/emotional is a major theme in this book. The kimchi business that the women start to sustain their family is just one example that makes my mouth water.

The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen
I didn't love this book, but the scenes of the family's desultory, default "mixed grill" dinner were pitch perfect.
