Yes, if you’re talking about Saint Jerome Academy, no electronics including in middle school. But it is very conservative (we are not but it’s manageable and we go to a different church).

Parents need to complain loudly. Over and over. The teachers are sick of this too.

Ours doesn’t send Chromebooks home with kids until 6th grade, which I appreciate. Third graders really shouldn’t need any tech homework.

Our school steps it up starting in middle school. In elementary it's old-school computer labs where they learn to type and that's about it. But they figure the kids will have to use laptops in college and for standardized tests, so they teach them how as they get older.

Google is in the business of collecting everyone's private information and selling it. Chromebooks are a very poor choice for a school.

Google is also very, very careful to make sure that their official education tools are compliant with applicable law, but if your kid does something while logged in to their Google account that doesn't have to be compliant (ex: visit Google Maps), they will collect that data happily. I don't think you will find them doing anything illegal, but unethical? All day, every day.

Have you had curriculum night yet? If not, I would definitely ask about this, or ask at conferences in a few weeks. I have a third grader and would be concerned about having him transport a Chromebook to and from school every day. I think at this age they are usually on iPads or else have Chromebooks that stay in the classroom.

My 3rd grader gets a chrome book assigned that has to go to and from school with her. She will have three hours of homework on it a week. I haven’t seen it yet so not sure what protections will be on it, and we’ve received no communication from the school about protections on the laptop or what process they undertook to select the apps they’re assigning for homework.

I’m just curious at other area privates, when are your kids getting laptops and what kind of communication do you get from your schools?
