Yes OP I go to work in DC every day. No one has stopped me or asked for ID. Would not surprise me if they do though. Millions of Hispanic people live and work in DC. And of course they still go.

I'm a brown person who lives in DC and it's fine. I carry a copy of my passport, and I've passed by numerous law enforcement and they don't look twice.

I assumed my Real ID was enough. I haven’t gone into DC recently, but if we go to a museum one of these weekends, I’m just bringing my Real ID. I have birth certificates for my kids in my wallet.

I don't know whether the MPD's actions were justified or not. Both police and people who have been arrested lie. But this kind of stop has occurred periodically over past decades, and since it was MPD and not ICE or other federal authorities, I'd bet it's unrelated to the federal actions.

They pulled over a car full of Howard students and surrounded the car with rifles and demanded they exit. Did not ask for ids from students. Arrested one of the students. That scared me.

From my understanding, based on 2 US citizens who were separately detained and questioned by ICE at a checkpoint on Clara Barton PKWY, they pull over "work vehicles" driven by poc. These people were not laborers, quite the contrary, but their respective vehicles had business names on them. They showed their IDs and work credentials and were let go.

If you are a visible minority, is it safe to go into DC? Also if you get approached by ICE what documents do you need as proof of citizenship? A driver's license is not necessarily proof that you're a citizen, so what do you actually need? Are you supposed to carry a passport at all times??
