3 is a passing/proficient score, and the score that most proficient kids get. 4s are pretty rare but do happen-- but not all above-average kids get 4s and it's not concerning not to get one even if you have a very smart kid. 1s are way behind. 2 is really the main score you would want more context on-- if they just barely missed a 3 it's probably no big deal, whereas if they're close to a 1 it would be something to look into more.

I believe the cut score between 2 and 3 is always 750 no matter the year or test, although I could be wrong.

It works for my kids scores.. maybe there is a slight change.

I assume the individual score reports will be coming home physically later this fall, like last year. But it's nice to see the actual scores earlier, good on them for finally figuring it out.

I get that these results are used in the headline indicators for Maryland about the share of students who are proficient in reading/math.

Does MCPS actually consider them for CES or MS/HS magnet placement?

Well at least they’ve put the results online in a reasonable time frame this year. Baby steps for McPS. Maybe next year they’ll be able to post the results with an explanation alongside.

I don't think so. My kid has a scaled score that is shown as the middle of level 4 in the 2022 PDF, but it's a 3 in the Parentvue Portal this year. So maybe they change the score thresholds each year?

Contact the office of testing and reporting to request for a copy of the individual student report. It has more info.

I got the report but only after first contacting the state.

From my quick googling looks like the level is the thing to look at. It’s in a scale of 1-4: Beginning Learner (Level 1), Developing Learner (Level 2), Proficient Learner (Level 3), and Distinguished Learner (Level 4)
