Op here—these are all interesting, thanks!

One of my kids is interested in podcasting, good to know it’s a potentially lucrative option.

I went scuba diving with a woman who studied astronomy but gave up white collar work and got into tech/cave diving. She runs a business training people up. Organizations all over the world fly her out to run teams gathering samples, deploying science experiments, and underwater archaeology. Any given week she's in Hawaii, asia, or somewhere exotic.

We recently had an appointment with a genetic counselor, and I looked up their training. It’s a cool combination of science and psychology and people skills. I’m a people oriented scientist and I think that would have been a really great job for me if I knew it existed 15 years ago.

My cousin worked one that is way out there. A cleaner who specializes in cleaning up sets after adult film scenes. It is a real thing, especially out in LA. It’s like a separate crew than your normal house cleaners and maids.

My friend’s husband finds and preps experts for testifying in trials. I’d never really thought before about how the experts are identified.

I met a woman at the airport in Santiago, Chile who was a wholesale fish broker. She hung out where the fishermen came in with their catch and brokered deals.

Seemed super interesting!

I had a million jobs. Some ones that were unusual

I Kill lab animals and red bag them.
Emptied dispensers in lady’s rooms
Was a microfilmer
Worked in a massive vault with trillion dollars of physical securities that had tons of bearer bonds.
Pretend bar customer. A friends dad would buy dying bars with zero customers cheap, we had big mailing list of cool tendu young people. Dad buy bar and we all show up and pretend to be customers while he had suckers come to at to buy it, we all drink for free and the bartenders pretend to ring up drinks. Onr sold we move to next bar

On a thread (maybe in the college forum?) a few months ago, someone posted that their job tied together writing and anthropology. I don’t remember the job title, though I wish I did because I think it might interest my dc.

But trying to figure it out again made me wonder all the other jobs I had no idea existed.

Curious if you have a cool unusual job, or know someone who does. I’m a teacher so I’m the opposite of cool and unusual 🤣
