What kind of company? How long has it been around? For an established company, I wouldn't worry about this as a sign that it's going under.

OP’s bonus eligibility isn’t the point—the point is that management has given clear signals that it can’t keep up with prior years’ spending patterns.

How concerned would you be? Less than six months on job, firm is facing financial troubles (as is everyone), they said today no bonus and “lackluster” market adjustment. Start looking?
