I did a solo trip to Savannah from the DC area and it was perfect. Stayed in the historic area in a hotel that had happy hour every day, took some nice walks, did a comedy trolley tour, went in the SCAD museum, ate whatever I wanted. It was great for 3 days.

Nashville is fun and you can hang alone in the bars listening to music, several museums and tourist sites, go to the Listening Room, shopping. It’s probably better with a group though, unless you make friends with strangers pretty easily. I

I highly recommend going to Asheville. We did a family fall trip to Asheville in October a few years ago and we loved the city going to Biltmore trying great restaurants and the city has a really great vibe being in the mountains in the fall. Season is great because of the perfect fall color starting to come out. It’s perfect for singles, couples and families.

I would say Asheville, went several years ago and enjoyed the biltmore, great dining downtown, a cute spa, and mountain hike + yoga.

Not sure if things have recovered from the flooding but it was great for a fall reset.

Sedona will involve a drive from Phoenix. If you’re not comfortable driving on windy roads up/down mountains, it might not be a good fit (I am scared of this and was a bit spooked)

Savannah or Charleston if you can good flight options. Choosing those since you only want 3 days. But I think Nashville is a great option, just don’t stay in the strip. I would stay at the Westin, JW Marriott, there’s a Conrad, Loews near Vanderbilt.

IMO Nashville is okay with a fun group. Music, nightlife, etc

For a solo refresh? No way.

Sedona is always beautiful esp when not blazing hot

I didn't love Nashville I mean it's fine but for a getaway to refresh, not really..

St Augustine is actually super nice is as Quebec City if before the temps start falling. I'd look at even Santa Fe. I would not look at Asheville though.

I'm one of the Nashville posters. OP mentioned 2-3 nights so it doesn't seem like a good idea to fly as far as Portland or Santa Fe.

Don't know about Portland weather in October. I was just there. Pretty country but just felt like any other mountain and scenery and winery place.

I was also going to recommend Nashville. Their Hop On Hop Off Bus is great and you really do have time to experience some of the stops. If you are starting downtown, you may not want to start the morning at the stop by the Country Music Hall of Fame if it's still one of the last ones because they don't pick up there until they've driven most of the route but you can walk not too far to a lower number stop. I think the Ryman was a lower numbered-stop, but check the itineraries to make sure this is all accurate. The point is we could have walked 5 minutes to be on the first bus quite a bit earlier.

I wouldn't go to Portland if you want to go to bed early due to time zones. Also when I flew there years ago, my flight was delayed and I got to bed around 1:00 AM. Sedona also has the time zone drawback.

Nashville has a lot of flights from DC. You can land in the morning and be downtown for most of the day, if that's where you want to stay. We stayed at Embassy Suites and walked to close sites the first day then did the bus tour the next day.

I've also stayed at the Gaylord Hotel, which is nice, but it's not near much.

Savannah is fine too, but it's been so long that I don't know how frequent the flights are.

By the way, I said "we" for the bus tour in Nashville because I went recent with family, but I also did it by myself years ago and enjoyed Nashville alone.

Sedona, no question. Best weather and desert beauty.

Help me decide on a solo trip in October! Never been to any of these cities and I don't need anything special other than a change of scenery. Will find a nice hotel, some good restaurants, a museum or two, and go to bed early for 2-3 nights.

Portland (Oregon)
Sedona
Nashville
Savannah
Ashville
