Ugh. I dislike that comment that your dad was a good provider. That style of sentence from my mother would be suggesting my spouse is NOT a good provider. Brings back bad memories of her passive aggressive style of speech.

My mom was like this and it was frustrating. It was even worse when she retired completely, she thought I was retired too.

When you're not working those questions are so annoying. I'm asked "what do you do all day." Why do you care? I'm not asking you what you're doing.

Was your mom a SAHM? Mine was, a wonderful one at that. But sometimes it feels like she truly doesn't get the working world. I don't hold it against her. My dad was a teacher who invested really well and allowed us to live an UMC lifestyle. And before my brother and I came along, she was a teacher. So her experience with the corporate style world is minimal.

"So.. what are you doing today... busy day working?"

Yes, mom, I'm not retired. I have a job. I am raising your grandchildren.

Why is Dad never confused about what I do all day every weekday?
