He tells me when it’s cute but I swear it’s just whatever I have on bc there isn’t much rhyme or reason to his stated preferences lol

DH (then a boyfriend) bought me a dress at Ann Taylor, he guessed my size and it was perfect, I wore it till the buttons pulled through. He will comment on things I look attractive in but never that I don’t.

He definitely tells me if he loves something I am wearing.

He also lets me know if he doesn't like it (generally comes down to too revealing in his mind or the wrong color for me) but that's rare.

He compliments outfits he likes but understands that sometimes I look like a slob. He would never try to buy me clothing.

Yes in the sense that he compliments outfits he really likes. But considering he's also said nice/sweet things when in in a jumper and joggers, I don't think he cares all that much.

Yes, he comments and I appreciate. Yes, he buys clothes he thinks I will look good in. He has good taste and is generally spot on. He will also buy stuff that he knows I would I never buy for myself based on the price tag. If it doesn’t fit or I don’t like it he will exchange or return. His feelings aren’t hurt, if they were that would be an issue.

Same. Mine knows not to say the quiet part out loud.

We come from conservative cultures, but I changed and he didn't.

When we were young, he would come with me to buy things and suggest various pieces, of the flowery but conservative sort. He never liked my low rise ripped jeans (you're paying for holes!).

Years later, our opinions on my clothes have diverged a bit more. He's stayed as conservative as ever, and sometimes doesn't like that I wear mini skirts and short shorts. But any time I wear a long skirt with flowery top, he loves that.

It's all fine.

He's never said he doesn't like something but he is instantly a lovesick teenager when I wear a tennis dress and french braid my hair.

No. Were basically the same way with each other. Meaning we don't really buy each other clothes save the occasional humorous t- shirt. And we'll let the other know if they are looking particularly delicious but no requests or things like that. Both of us struggled with body image issues in the past so we're careful with that .

If he doesn't like it, he has been smart enough to keep that opinion to himself.

Comments on what outfits he likes you best in, buying you clothes he thinks will look good on you. Things like that.

Think this can either be a fine / harmless thing or a bit negative / overbearing at times.
