It is true it has squirrel meat in it? I heard this was customary for Appalachia ( I was born and raised in France.)

Albemarle County, VA has lots of what OP describes, so that is my guess.

Also Albermarle County NC hasn't existed since the 18th century, although Brunswick stew is really popular in NC.

Correct, Just south of the Madison Co. Line. Madison County Volunteer Firefighters has a great one but I don't want to drive all the way out there.

True story: I grew up in NoVA and had never heard of Brunswick Stew until my aunt put a recipe for it in a family cookbook one of my cousins organized a few years ago. But I still thought it was just like her own personal recipe. I had no idea there was this generic thing called Brunswick Stew that apparently is universally known.

Brunswick County, VA (southside VA) is the birthplace of Brunswick Stew.

No. Walmart often has cans of Mrs Fearnow's Brunswick Stew - it is not identical to fresh stew, but very good for canned stew.

Grew up in Albemarle County where every fire station/church/HS sports team fund raiser made 50 gallon batch's of Brunswick Stew every year. They varied a bit but all were so fantastic.

Anyone know places up here that do this?
