Cut the cord, OP. You need not be involved in the small move of your grown adult son. If he is a man in his 20s, he can either hire a smaller company or rent a truck and get some friends to help. The fact that he has enlisted you for help does shine some light on why these men are struggling so much lately. I can't imagine my brother (or me) calling our mommy in our 20s to help with a move in any way.

One good option that I did in my younger days was to rent a u-haul that you drive yourself (very reasonably priced for a local move) and then hire “moving helpers” to load and unload your truck. MUCH more cost effective. I used “Get Up and Go Movers” multiple times, though the last time was probably in 2014, with great success. They are mostly staffed by deaf people but it’s super easy you just write down instructions as needed (and do a lot of pointing).

I told my young adult son that I would crowdsource for movers to handle a small move (one bedroom) in DC. The usual companies seem like overkill for such a small job.

Has anyone's young adult used a good mover recently?
