I told my now-DH something similar. Very few weddings we've been to have done cake smashing. We and most of our friend got married in our late 20s/early 30s which I think makes a difference. I always thought it was tacky. Never been to a wedding where someone was pushed into the pool.

Which means you're low class. Maybe fix that. And then your feed won't show you crap like this.

Ugh!

I can only imaging your snobby opinion of the bride & bridesmaid “show your tushy!” photo trend.

Not a thing either.

This cake smashing thing has been around for a long time. I told my now-DH in June 1990 that if he did that to me at our wedding, it would be grounds for divorce.

He fed me a piece very nicely (and I him) and so we've been married for 35 years.

I would hope this is only done if they discussed it beforehand.

Groom to be here.

The other super weird thing is my fiancee keeps showing me posts in FB brides groups of wedding pictures where the bride is in a beautiful dress and the groom is either wearing shorts or like an untucked shirt and khakis.

Like what?

Granted, I am 53 but for my wedding I have a custom suit, cufflinks, a tie made from a piece they cut off tailoring her wedding dress, and even a custom-made fedora that I will wear AFTER the ceremony and in a few select photos just for fun.

But is there some trend where the grooms are slobs while the brides go all out?

Ugh. So sick of people like OP who think that their social media feed reflects a general trend in the population.

No one does this, OP, except a few individuals. It's not a thing. Also, remember that the USA isn't the world. There are tons of wedding traditions all over the world.

Just stop being so stupid.

I was at a wedding last weekend where the groom daintily fed the bride her cake and the bride smashed the cake all over the groom's face. So it seems like it goes both ways.

Clearly, this needs to be a top priority at this moment in history.

Personally, not a fan.

It’s gotten way more aggressive. Cakes are being rubbed by the handful over women’s faces, rubbed into their hair, ruining dresses. This is not the 1950’s boop on the nose.

I’m seeing these videos all over social media and it just makes me so mad. I want to start a movement where instead of people cheering or awkwardly laughing because they’re so shocked, I want everyone to go completely silent. Short of attacking the men (because it’s always men doing the smashing, shoving and pushing), this is really the only way guests can comfortably show their disgust at what the groom/guest/spouse/boyfriend did.

Everyone, go silent when this BS happens and go help your friend clean up, dry off, file for divorce, whatever suits the occasion.

Who’s with me?
