Go thru a list of uva vs unc runners last 10 years who have graduated with an Econ degree and see what they are doing

Whichever group impresses your kid the most, is where they should go.

Also consider age of coaching staff. Which coach will still be there in 5 years? Too old (60+) and they’ll retire. Too young (20’s) and they’ll be off to the next thing.

Does your kid have scholarship offers at both? Or is this a dream of yours?

I think academics and feel of the school should be the first consideration because, I hate to say it, but injuries are not unusual in track/XC. Where would he be happy without the sports program?

I know a couple of runners at UVA ... I'm going to go ahead and choose that for your kid.

You should ask current kids in the team as well as the coach.

They are incredibly similar. If the financial package isn't a consideration I would pick UNC for the major/career you noted but I'm biased as an alum. You probably can't make a bad pick. You didn't say what gender your child is but UNC is incredibly proud of its female athletic success.

I would agree the athletes I knew had a very limited social circle outside of teammates.

I'd do UNC hands down. (VA resident who loves UVA but UNC has an incredible network, campus, weather, etc)

DC is a runner choosing btw UVA and UNC for XC/Track. Econ major ultimately looking for finance or consulting path. A wise college coach told my older kid during a come to jesus moment frosh year - “your college experiences will allow you opportunities to focus on social, academic, and athletic paths - you need to choose two of the three, you can’t have all three” - if this is the same at UNC and UVA, which school provides the best two options?
