It wasn't my favorite Anne Tyler, but it delivered in some small ways. If you want to get a better feel for the magic she creates as a writer perhaps go with Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant or The Accidental Tourist.

I enjoyed it and it was a quick read.

Everyone wants to read it at the same time, as is the case with many new books.

Why not look at her back catalog or some top picks from 2020-2023 while you're waiting. I just finished a top pick from 1989.

She has written 25 novels and is now 83. if you haven’t read anything of hers before, you might want to start with a different one and see how you like her writing.

+1 also couldn’t you have just googled Anne Tyler before making a post? Plenty of books have long wait times especially for established authors.

This makes no sense. A lot of local authors don’t have hold lists. Being from Baltimore isn’t a selling point. Aside from Three Days in June, only one of her books has a waitlist and it is 2 people. Maybe google that.

I liked it. She captures a certain slice of Baltimore/middle america so well. It wasn't amazing but it was good.

I actually enjoyed the story, but it is a novella, not a novel. I usually love Anne Tyler and this one was “ok” as noted above.

It was too short and there was a jarring misplaced time warp moment that was a real turn off for me. I’m glad I read it though because i wouldnt want to have missed out in case I loved it. “FOMO”, I guess.

I got on the waitlist before it came out, so read it relatively soon after publication. It was only ok.

Why is this book so popular? MCPL has a 238 person wait list for 52 copies, it's been out since February 2025, but it has 3.6 stars on GoodReads? Is it local? Are the reviews inaccurate? I am on the waitlist but I don't want to read a 3.6 star book....
