This is whom I was going to recommend. There was an amazing article written about her in the school paper and what she overcame to become a math teacher. She just gets the kids, knows how to motivate them, and connects with them on a level you rarely see in public schools. The kids respect that she demands a lot from them and they rise to the occasion.

Thanks for sharing the link—I actually am one of the students that wrote that article for The Tide! She really is an incredible teacher, and it meant a lot to be able to tell her story. If you enjoyed the piece, I’d be so grateful if you’d consider donating to The Tide so we can keep publishing student journalism like this. There’s a donation link at the bottom of the article!

pp here. I just read that article literally an hour ago. Wow. She is an amazing person. DC had told me a little bit of her background, but I didn't know just how tough she had it.

I find her now even more impressive.

Her son was my son’s classmate but I didn’t actually know her except in passing. I had no idea of all she’d been through. What an amazing woman.

My kid had good look with his Calculus and MVC teachers at Wheaton. I think Ms Shreck and Mr. Bates? Mr Bates graduated from MIT. He taught MVC and at the end of the year, the kids got to take the UMD MVC exam and get class credit for it. My kid got an A and apparently nearly half of his MVC class also got an A. He got a 5 after taking BC Calc with Ms Shrek.

I think they have some good STEM teachers at Wheaton - maybe the STEM magnet/academy attracts them. Mr Bates majored in engineering at MIT.

We use an online service. Much cheaper and can do it more often.

My DD has appreciated all her math teachers. For Pre-calc, she liked Ms Creager. For AP Calc BC, Ms Pasquale. I don't know if they're in the tutor list, however.

Does anyone have a great Calculus or Pre-Calculus teacher that your child really likes now or liked when they had them? If so, please recommend a name. Trying to cross reference to the mcps tutor list. Thanks!
