Gas-X works. Take some with a glass of water and lean on your bathroom counter.

I get this from lactose intolerance if I eat ice cream or drink milk.

I think this is something I’m not digesting well. At first I thought it was fat and my gall bladder but I’m going through an episode of this now and really didn’t have anything particularly fatty yesterday (I haven’t eaten anything today - honestly the only thing that helps is fasting until this passes which is why I am desperate for some other fix).

Thanks to the person above who mentioned moving. It definitely does help but it’s so uncomfortable to do, what’s really awful and embarrassing is the gas - the flatulence is SO loud and I have to pass gas so much that I’m really afraid of even going for a walk or jog outside in case anyone hears me. The belches are also so loud and foul. It’s like I’m a smelly bag of gas and I don’t want to subject that to anyone.

I don’t think it could be giardia from swimming and I don’t have pets but I LOVE dogs and do stop and pet them whenever I can.

I guess I’m still stuck at the original question:
Other than moving my body and taking activated charcoal (which, if I’m being honest, doesn’t seem to help much) is there any quick fix for terrible gas like this? I was able to call in sick today but there are definitely days at work where I absolutely cannot call in sick and I’ve just been lucky to this point that one of those days hasn’t overlapped w an episode like this….

My dog got giardia so we were on watch to see if we'd catch it from her. You can also get it from travel.

Charcoal? Are you insane? Take gas X and pepto and go to a damned doctor! A gastro.

You probably have IBS or SIBO or it could be more serious issue with your gall bladder or pancreas.

WTF go to the doctor. Sorry, exercise isn’t the cure here.

Also OP following up with another question hopefully someone with medical experience can answer: what actually causes the gas? It’s bacteria right? I am taking a probiotic and I eat yogurt - could I be overloading my guts with bacteria?

The best thing for bloating and gas is usually belly massage and movement. I work out when I’m bloated even though it feels awful. It works every time.

wouldn't it happen more than once per month?

Look up symptoms for giardia. I always remember the foul smelling burps part of that.

Do you have pets or have you been swimming in wild spots?

Hi - I'm not sure what is causing this but I'm having fairly regular gastrointestinal upset (about 1x month). It lasts about 24 hours. It starts with stomach pain in bed a few hours after I've fallen asleep, then I get really bloated (it looks like I am pregnant, my abdominal skin is VERY tight and the bloating is pretty uniform from right below my rib cage to right above my groin). I have severe gas that turns into belching and flatulence - with the belching I have a foul taste and even get some undigested food that comes up in my belches. After about 4-6 hours of gas I finally start to have bowel movements. I have semi-diarrhea all day and finally at bedtime I start to feel better.

I can't be around anyone during these episodes because the gas is terrible and embarrassing and unpleasant.

I've tried activated charcoal and that helps a little but was wondering if anyone had any tricks or advice or meds they could recommend that would get rid of the gas? I can handle having to run to the bathroom but I'm in this impossible situation with the gas that I can't be around family, I can't go to the office - when this happens I lose a whole day in my bedroom.
