We just break up and stay loosely associated through a weakened federal government. I don't know that republicans will actually allow it to happen though, because all the money and prosperity they want to control is in blue states and cities.

A lot of things aren't supposed to be allowed. Felons aren't supposed to be President. Rapists are supposed to go to jail. The military isn't supposed to be policing citizens.
