That sounds like the way it should work.For us, maybe because it was elementary school but they (principal, program head, counselor, etc.) were very clear that after telling us he needed a tutor or would likely fall further behind and be dropped from the immersion program, they would not assist us at all.

We were lucky to get such a good teacher online.

You were lucky to find someone and the school admin's approach to your needing some help sounds deplorable.

When our Spanish immersion child was falling behind in reading in elementary school, the school recommended we find a tutor, but told us it was up to us to find one.

We eventually used the platform italki and found an education professional and Spanish treacher in Costa Rica who helped him immensely. He worked with her via Zoom for about a year, even after he was caught up on reading. It was very convenient.

Whether it be local or remote (and there are pros and cons to both), I recommend getting a professional who can really assess and address their needs. It makes a big difference. I don't know any pros locally, but PTSA might be able to help.

The usual recommendation is to ask the Spanish teacher for leads.

My middle schooler is in Spanish and their teacher last year had no control over a very chaotic class. And my kid learned nothing. They still want to stick with Spanish, although are far behind (an assessment their new teacher agrees with). Any suggestions on a Spanish tutor in Montgomery County?
