The Glass Hotel about...I guess financial fraud and its impacts? But I'm 1/3 of the way through and it's not even hit that part so not sure if the jacket description is on point. It's Emily St. John Mandel and I loved Station Eleven - the writing is also strong with good characters but just a winding story so far.

I am reading the wedding people for book club - about people attending a wedding I like it a lot so far - and I'm probably 70% through. I will likely rate it 4 stars on Goodreads. I am very stingy with 5 stars. I only give 0 to 1 of those a year.

I just started The Poisonwood Bible for book club…just a few pages in and loving the writing!

I’m also listening to A Breath of Snow and Ashes as my audiobook; will likely be doing so for awhile in parallel with a physical and/or ebook.

I just started Culpability. So far I’m not sure if I like it.

I just finished the Lion Women of Tehran which is one of the best books I’ve ever read.

Before that I read the River is Waiting which I give 5 stars.

I just started this one too! I'm about 100 pages in. Now that I've adjusted to the style, I'm enjoying it enough. Though I do find myself spacing out here and there when it gets too muddled, its mostly been a positive read so far.

Murder Your Employer: The McMasters Guide to Homicide

It's like college but learning how to murder. I'm not that excited about it despite seeing fantastic review. I'm going to keep plodding through it and hoping it improves...

Tell Me Everything by Elizabeth Stout. I just started it, and so far so good. I loved "Olive Kitteridge" and am really looking forward to reading this.

Just finished Theft by Abdulrazak Gurnah. Beautiful book set in Tanzania weaving together a number of complex characters - lovely writing style.

Glad to hear My Friends is good - it's next on my list! Love Backman's works.

I just started the Phryne Fisher Mystery books by Kerry Greenwood. I enjoyed the TV show years ago and decided to try the books. So far, it's entertaining.

An ARC of “A Beast Slinks Towards Beijing” by Alice Yang, to be published early next year. It’s sort of magical realism about several generations of a Chinese family during WWII, the cultural revolution, and then immigrating to States. I like it a lot, though parts of the narrative (particularly during the war, and then later on during the cultural revolution) are really, really horrific and hard to read.
