My DS is also in 4th. Books he (and me in some cases) have enjoyed: other Rick Riordan, including the Trials of Apollo, Rangers Apprentice series, First Cat in Space series (graphic novel), Terrible Two series, Wizards of Once series, How To Train Your Dragon (books, pretty different from movies), Wild Robot series...he also likes Beast Quest, its a formulaic series where two heroes battle different beasts, but its exciting and has like 60 books.
