Not sure Ostapenko would really be aware of or understand race relations in the US or know that classless / less educated had anything to do with race. Just like likely Taylor probably couldn't speak to the nuances of language and class / race relations in Latvia or in Latvian. Saying someone is classless / uneducated could be a non race related insult in Latvia and more about classism than racism.
I agree, I don't think Ostapenko was being racist. Penko is also like this with EVERYONE.
The comments of other WTA tour players on the issue actually kind of show you that people think Penko is kind of dumb and emotionally immature, but not necessarily racist. People condemned her comments but even Osaka was like "if you aren't from the US you might not understand that that's pretty much the worst thing you can say about a black athlete in a white dominated sport." Sabalenka also had some comments that indicate Penko went after her in the player's area when Saba was actually trying to be kind to her, and was just like "I hope she figures her crap out and gets help."
Sometimes a person is simply too stupid to be racist.
