You're the type of person who will never be happy until there are nine liberal justices on SCOTUS. Personally, I like some diversity of thought and am happy with a liberal/conservative split. Oh, and also with law schools that aren't degree mills for left wing activist nut jobs.

You have no idea what you are talking about. I am a Harvard Law graduate and wish we had had one law school in the nation like GMU back in the early 80s, but it didn't exist. So students who had a moderate conservative/Republican bent (which means OMG we believe in more power being given to the states and the end to a Imperial presidency and a bloated federal government - just like the founding fathers wanted) had no law school to attend So we students went to harvard/stanford/yale and kept our mouths shut because the liberals of the 60s 70s and early 80s had CONTROL of the law schools.

law school got a lot more competitive, especially around here, because lots of government workers (including probationary ones) got laid off and are looking for the next steps in their careers or a place to hide out for a few years. And a lot of undergrads who might have otherwise gotten entry-level government jobs are applying for grad school instead.

I just worked with an intern from GMU Law this summer, and I was impressed. This person wasn't overly conservative and definitely not MAGA. Went to GMU because they offered the best financial aid, and because they have a strong externship program.

BigLaw tends to hire from a very small # of top-ranked schools where pedigree is important to clients (and existing partners); a reputation for being liberal or conservative is usually inconsequential, outside the question of "fit" within the firm's culture. Plenty of firms are facially apolitical and only care about professional competence, work ethic, and fit.

Your ugly red MAGA hat is preventing your from using your brain. The school can do fine in rankings and still have sold its soul to the devil. It has become the breeding ground for clerks for super right wing Trump appointed judges. That doesn't mean they are dumb. It just means that they are morally bankrupt and are throwing away all precedents and ways of practicing law that governed our country for most of its history. Some of those perhaps could have used some tweaks. But not what is happening now.
