People need to stop assuming that because it worked out for their kid that it will work out for all students. Algebra1 MCAP scores, plus higher math district exams and teacher feedback prove that it isn’t.
Going from 5/6 to AMP 7+ requires that the teacher account for the missed content or that the student be able to someone easily grasp what was skipped. Math is a subject that builds upon itself.
Also, I can totally understand teachers wanting smaller classes. My kids AMP8+ class had 36 students.
Its just slowed down fluff math. Kids will be fine. Parents can work with them or get tutors if necessary.
Parent should plan to "work with them or get tutors" to prepare in advance, not to recover from failure.

What do you mean skipped AIM?
AIM was 1-year prealgebra. The new Prealgebra is a replacement for AIM.

No it's not. They are not going to cover all the standards for Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 in 2 years. They are going to just cover some. Integrated Math 1 & 2 will be regularly paced.
This sequence makes zero sense. They will be covering less and condensing it.

No it's not. They are not going to cover all the standards for Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 in 2 years. They are going to just cover some. Integrated Math 1 & 2 will be regularly paced.

Our teacher said at BTS night that they would be reevaluating students but explained it was because the new curriculum moves so quickly and they cover so much material in one year.

At back to school night DC’s pre Algebra teacher was warning parents that too many students have been placed in pre algebra and the teachers will be reassessing them using mcap, map and classroom performance and might move some students down to AMP 6+. Anyone else seeing this?
