Yes, that area of the Beltway is always crowded. It’s the construction and the bridge, even though there is no obvious place that lanes are blocked.


Construction zones have reduced speed limits, squiggly lanes, jersey walls, etc...combine that with the high-density of the area + being a major thoroughfare for traveling.

Yes, that area of the Beltway is always crowded. It’s the construction and the bridge, even though there is no obvious place that lanes are blocked.

It’s been my experience that it is always congested except very very early in the morning.

There are merge areas in particular that just combine with bad driving to always be a problem.

It's rush day. Not hour.
BTW if you work in Tyson's between Thanksgiving and Christmas if you don't get out before 4 you might as well work till 7 you will get home same time.

I have a 9-5 job in person job in Tysons and had to leave at 11 am for a doctor's appointment in Bethesda. The beltway was PACKED in both directions. Wonder why? kids are at school, adults are at work. Yes, I get that there are people like me who occasionally have to get out of work for something but those shouldn't be enough people to cause traffic.
All lanes were open that day and construction was only happening on the side of the road, so that doesn't justify the congestion.
