I normally encourage short resumes, particularly for people under the age of 40, but if the above is true, that's really sad, and we'll lose out on a lot of smart researchers (although that is already happening with this administration's war on science).

It's because the AI screener looks for things like "works with technology" and if you don't have what computer programs you work with (like GIS software), you don't make it through. I think USA jobs is what needs the fix.

As a resume reviewer SME in the federal gov, I often see 10-15 page resumes. I'd say the average is 5 pages. I have seen a 40 page resume. Feds pretty much had to do that to get past the bad USA jobs computers.

I hate pretty much everything about hiring. I personally wish we could do pre-screening calls because so many resumes are straight up lies. I'm in a very specialized area (hence why I'm called in to help review resumes) and everyone says they're an expert. Except very few people have worked in my job area, they just briefly touched upon it in a different job. I don't want essay questions, but I would like a short question and answer that candidates have to fill out.

Federal resumes are long, in part, because of the USAJobs format. But we are also told to list everything. Prior to this page limit, some agencies would inform applicants that they would review only the first five pages of a resume. It should free up review time for HR and the hiring official.

I think it’s a good change. No need to list every detail of every job you ever had. And I am a scientist.

This. A typical science resume has 1-2 pages about the person, but one is expected to include a list of publications, which usually brings it up to 3-4 pages.

But it is only publications related to job thar matter. No me cares about your love poem that got published in Teen magazine when you were 14

They should find something else meaningful to do. They wanted us (my agency) to use their outlook signature template, now put their hands on fed resume....

The country has many other severe issues to be taken care of, not outlook signature block, not fed resume, ....
