Not all Wegmans stores are created equal. I’ve been going to the Germantown Wegmans since the day it opened and I love it. It’s almost a one-stop shop for us. I checked out the new Rockville store as it is much closer to my house but it’s smaller and more chaotic and didn’t have some of our staple purchases so I’ll continue to make the drive.

The DC Wegmans has much less inventory and higher prices than those in the subburbs. I’ll hit the ones in MD if I’m in the area but the DC one is a waste of time and leaves me annoyed each time.

Wegmans prices are lower than Giant for most brand name items and their store brand is pretty good, too. You have to get used to their items. The bigger stores in the suburbs have more selection.

I really dislike Wegmans and don’t get the hype so it’s not just you. I get everything I need from Whole Foods, Costco, and Trader Joe’s.

Their bakery stuff is better than giant for sure, as is the sushi and the pasta type stuff. But it’s not a regular grocery for me. I still go to giant almost once a week. Then go to Costco, TJ once a month or so and wegmans maybe quarterly. If it were closer I’d go more just for sushi.

I agree with the dislike of how their store is organized but for me, it’s worth walking back and forth a few times.

Same. I enter at produce and edge over to the left one aisle if I have to pick up bread then back of the store to meat. Then I do all the cheeses and swing back into produce. Our wegmans does not have much packaged produce at all. I think I get romaine hearts and carrots that are packaged. And of course bags of onions and potatoes because it's a good value.

Then back of the store for the wegmans brand butter, cottage cheese, yogurt, and kombucha. The best. Into freezer and beauty items rarely if needed. I hit up the rest of the dry items then back corner for oj and milk. Coffee and paper products only if needed. Sparkling water if needed. All the wegman brands are amazing. Skip the chips/crackers and cookies. I finish up looking at the home goods aisle for fun, then any condiments, pickles, holiday items etc.

Only go far down to the prepared food and sushi if we are wanting some. Skip the bakery sweet completely though they are the best if you need a cake!

I mean, obviously they set it up that way so you spend more money.

If you prefer Giant, go to Giant. Why are you forcing yourself on Wegmans (no apostrophe, btw)?

Giant is good for national brands, lots of variety (I could not believe the selection of Pop-Tarts), and low prices. Still, Wegmans is my store based on experience and pricing. If you don't need deli, seafood, sushi or bakery - skip the Marketplace. I find the prices at Wegmans to be better, but the selection at mixed-use stores is limited. That means I go to Columbia or Landover about once a month for some things. I do order Instacart from Giant for single-serve Yoplait yogurt (kids) because the smaller Wegmans don't carry it at all.

The only thing worth getting there are the frozen margarita pizzas.

Just stay at WF. Why are you creating problems where there are none? Save the time and do something more to contribute to society.

I don’t like Wegman’s either, despite trying the Fairfax one a few times. I hate prepackaged produce and the focus seems to be on prepared foods, not groceries. The people that like it seem to be from thr NE and it’s more of a nostalgia thing. I prefer Giant, too.

I haven’t been to the DC Wegman’s. I like the new one in Rockville, and I LOVE the other ones I’ve been to. I could see making it my only store. I would go there a few times a week just for the sushi. The quality is much better overall than the Whole Foods I go to regularly (which has declined quite a bit from its past awesomeness).

I’d say get used to shopping there, see if familiarity with the layout helps, or maybe try one of the bigger suburban stores—and see what you think of a fuller Wegman’s experience — especially if you’re comparing your experience with people that shop at other Wegman’s stores. I’m not really picky about layouts. I like the variety, have found things at Wegman’s that aren’t at other local stores, and I think the quality— especially of prepared foods and bakery goods is excellent overall. But my priorities and my shopping list might be different from yours.

tldr: Try one of the larger stores and see what you think. The DC Wegman’s isn’t the full Wegman’s experience.

This thread has already been done! Wegmans is great for its pre-packaged meals and its bakery. If you like Giant better (yuck), then GO TO GIANT!

We are trying to get away from Whole Foods but there doesn't seem to be a good substitute in one place. I went to MOM's and that was good for some stuff. I liked the bulk section. I then went over to Wegman's and it is a cluster&$&*. I've been in before but not for a long time.

This is the DC Wegman's. You walk into the produce section and then you have to go to the left to get cheese, meats, fish, bakery and then back to the other side of the store for dairy, frozen and and packaged goods. I know that part of this is my unfamiliarity with the store but why is the place set up that way? The produce section only had prepackaged lettuce. They were out of broccoli. (I know that can happen but . . )

Also, it felt like it doesn't carry the variety that Giant has. I did like some things like they had a turkey breast that I could roast and use in sandwiches instead of buying deli turkey. I liked the variety of berries they had but overall I did not like it.

What am I missing here? For most of my friends Wegman's is their go-to over Giant, Safeway and Harris Teeter. I would like to find a place to one stop shop and right now that is still WF.
