Skidmore
Williams
Pomona
Wesleyan
Bard
Smith
Sarah Lawrence

VCU
Yale
UCLA
CMU
WashU
Cornell
BU
NYU
Brown

These were the schools my high stats art kid considered. DC ended up at one of the LACs in part because of the generous financial aid. But the kid was very tempted by WashU, which offered strong financial aid and a great arts program.

My arts kid was accepted to both VCUArts and JMU's visual arts program. Chose JMU because of the overall campus atmosphere and the strength of non-arts programs (they are considering adding a non-arts degree as well). Can't beat the price if you're in-state!

Best program of this type is the RISD-Brown joint degree program but it's extremely selective and $$$$.

Oberlin, Skidmore, and Dickinson come to mind, along with Smith, Bard, and Connecticut College.

If you’re in Va, JMU has a really nice school of visual arts. It’s not as well-known as VCU’s, but I think the facilities are much nicer. (And the surroundings prettier, if an urban campus isn’t your kid’s thing.)

Depending on their medium, VCU actually ranks quite high: https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-fine-arts-schools/virginia-commonwealth-university-234030

and Richmond has a thriving arts community. Bonus if you're a VA resident for in-state tuition

The rest of the university will give you a solid education but it's not highly ranked like the arts programs.

They haven't taken the SAT yet (10th grade), so I'm not sure how competitive they'll be. They've always tested well though, so I'm guessing in the 1400 range.

If T50ish stats, Boston U has a strong visual arts program and double major opportunities.

My kid is interested in visual arts, but I'd prefer they not go to a school that only does visual arts (i.e. SCAD, MICA, RISDI). Can anyone recommend schools that have strong arts programs and communities and also would allow for another major outside of the arts?
