When the next level up for promotion is the same as your manager- how to handle?
The situation: I’m more than qualified for the promotion, and I’ve proven myself time and again. My work is visible to leadership and I have been publicly recognized for my work.
The challenge: my manager is very insecure, so she spends more time self-promoting than focusing on doing her work. I told her in our 1:1 that I’d like a promotion. She said she will look into it, but she thought I needed to do additional things. I checked what she said with HR, and they said, nope, not accurate.
What is the solution ? I’d like to talk to my manager about it, but I don’t feel like I can trust her anymore.
